REALTORS® give back to the community
Thousands of dollars and volunteer hours go back into community projects sponsored by WECAR.
Through its 90 year history, The Windsor- Essex County Real Estate Board has contributed in countless ways toward enhancing and improving the quality of life for every citizen and every resident of the Windsor/Essex County area. REALTORS®, as a group and individuals, currently participate in community services and charities, and are proud to be part of WECREB’s longstanding history in community involvement.
Countless goals and dreams of many wonderful organizations have been realized all over Windsor and Essex County thanks in part to The Windsor-Essex County Real Estate Board.
Their involvement includes the support of a number of outstanding worthwhile causes, projects and service organizations, including, but not limited to:
available to students (two bursaries and two scholarships) were increased to $2000 from $1000 offered in previous years.
Every year, with the help of energetic and devoted Committee Members, the Annual Charity Golf Tournament is hosted by the Board. This is in addition to the annual Christmas Gala Silent Auction wherein WECREB has partnered with The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County and over the years have contributed over $50,000.00 thus making WECREB deserving of a dedicated patient room in the Hospice Residential Home in their honour. In 2003 and 2004 alone, the Silent Auction helped REALTORS® donate an impressive $15,000 toward worthwhile causes. And in 2005, the Silent Auction brought in an outstanding $25,000. Those proceeds were divided among several organizations, including the Rotary Children’s Safety Village, Willistead Manor, the Paul Martin Complex and The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County with whom WECREB has partnered with for the last six years.
WECREB has been a proud sponsor of the Windsor and Essex County Fire Departments’ Risk Watch, a program which is designed to educate children to be safer, therefore preventing injuries.
In 2007, a donation of $30,000 was given to Windsor Regional Hospital by WECREB toward the purchase of a new 64-slice CT scanner. This new scanner has been in use since last January, and has significantly reduced wait times for scans for area residents.
In previous years, groups of REALTORS®have come together to provide one lucky, deserving family with a complete home makeover. Letters would be forwarded to various charitable organizations throughout the city in search for a low-income family whose home would be completely renovated – this would include fresh new paint, doors, furnace, kitchen cupboards, flooring, kitchen sink, and so on.
And in 1998, when a flood disaster devastated our area, Members of WECREB banded together and raised $12,000 to be donated to the Essex County-Pelee Island Flood Disaster Relief Fund; additional funding was also granted, as the REALTORS® Care Foundation also considers emergency disaster relief.
It is through the efforts of individual REALTORS® coming together that the Board is able to support important projects, big and small. WECREB’s REALTORS®are happy to provide professional, friendly, and knowledgeable services to any and all who want to buy, sell, or lease property, but as active Members of the community, they strive to serve and participate with countlessgroups and organizations to make Windsor and Essex County a wonderful place to live.
